Beekeeping workshop set in Corinth

Mississippi State University bee specialist Jeff Harris will conduct a workshop for beekeepers on Aug. 20 in Corinth.

The Daily Corinthian reports the session is designed for beginning beekeepers and will be held at the Alcorn County Extension Service office near Crossroads Arena.

There is no charge to attend.

Greenwood man dies after falling in hotel pool

A man who was found in a downtown Jackson hotel pool Friday night has died, WLBT reported.

According to Jackson Fire Department Chief Arson Investigator Greg Travis, the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. at the Marriott on Amite Street.

Authorities said 28-year-old Ben Johnson was pulled from the pool, but there is no indication as to how he fell in. Firefighters, AMR, and Jackson Police responded to the scene. […]

MSU raises more than $80 million for third consecutive year

For three consecutive years, Mississippi State University has raised more than $80 million in outright gifts and pledges of future support from individuals, corporations, foundations, trusts and estates, with the just-ended 2013 fiscal year exceeding $81.3 million

Previous record years included FY 2012, in which Mississippi State experienced its largest single giving year total in school history with over $86.4 million. More than $80.3 million was raised in FY 2011.
