Teen who stabbed newborn will go to trial

PANOLA COUNTY – A court has determined that a 16-year old girl that stabbed her newborn son to death earlier this year is competent to stand trial for his murder. Linda Nash was arrested in February 2010 after the infant was taken to the emergency room on Jan. 30.

Medical personnel saw the trauma to the baby’s body and notified the authorities.

Nash later said she stabbed the baby to hide her pregnancy from her parents.

Panola County Sheriff Otis Griffin said the child was born at Nash’s home in Pope, and his umbilical cord was still attached when he was taken to the ER.

Nash’s parents did not know she was pregnant.

Griffin said Nash was also hospitalized, but later taken to jail in Panola County. Her bond was $100,000, which she later posted and was released.

Nash is set to stand trial in September.
