OXFORD – (AP) Most of the recent news about Mississippi’s football program relates to the surprising and star-studded recruiting class Hugh Freeze landed in February.
The second-year
coach is excited about bringing in that new talent. But for the next month, he’s focused on improving what he already has on the roster as the Rebels go through spring practice.
Ole Miss is trying to build around a young nucleus that includes receiver Donte Moncrief, linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche and defensive end C.J. Johnson.
The Rebels finished with a 7-6 record last season, which was a remarkable feat considering the program was coming off a 2-10 season and had to learn Freeze’s new offense.
Now with a year of experience, players say there’s more comfort in the system, which should lead to even more success.
