JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State University held its annual Tiger Bash at the JSU Student Center Saturday afternoon, Aug. 20.

The event was the official kick-off to the 2011 fall sports season. During the event fans got the opportunity to meet, take pictures and get autographs from their favorite players and coaches from the Tigers football team, women’s soccer team, volleyball team and the men’s and women’s cross country team.

The event was a festive affair for JSU fans. The J-Settes, cheerleaders, baby tigers and mascot all performed for the crowd that encompassed the entire first floor of the student center. The Tigers also announced their new partnership with Taco Bell by introducing an on-line poll, where fans can vote their favorite JSU football players to the All-Century team. Beginning Sept. 1 fans will be able to log onto the Jackson State athletics website to select their All-Century team.

Robert Colbert and Renee Summerville won a JSU sponsored raffle and each person will have the option to participate in the coin toss or run out of the tunnel with the football team during the JSU vs. Alabama State game. A small reception followed the bash, where Tigers supporters bid on JSU memorabilia.

The Jackson State football team will open the 2011 season on Sept. 3 when the Tigers host the Concordia College Hornets (Selma, Ala.) for the W.C. Gorden Classic. Kick-off is set for 1:30 pm. The defending SWAC champion JSU soccer team will face the University of Mississippi on Sept. 28 in Oxford. The JSU volleyball team, the defending SWAC Eastern Division champions, will travel to Hattiesburg, MS to participate in the Southern Miss tournament beginning Sept. 26.
