Civil rights pioneer Rev. William H. Jones retires

Many individuals remember him from the civil rights days of the 60’s and 70’s.  Rev. William H. Jones made his mark on Jackson’s Georgetown community through his stand on social justice and his involvement with the youth of the community.  Rev. Jones began his ministry at Faith Presbyterian Church and ironically ended his ministry at the same church.  He is a graduate of Lanier High School where he ran track for the bulldogs.  He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and his Master of Divinity degree from Johnson C. Smith University, School of Theology, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“I believe in the youth of our nation and the potential they possess, — I love working with young people because they bring out the best in all of us.”  Rev. Jones has served as pastor at several places but Faith to him was special.  “Jackson is my home and I am proud to make this my professional and spiritual last stand said Jones.”

On Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 6 p.m. Rev. William Jones will be honored at a Retirement Celebration.  Many city, county and state representatives will salute him as well as members from the Mississippi Presbytery and the congregation. The celebration will be held at the Gulf Guaranty Banquet facility, 4791 I-55 North next door to Virginia College.
