Woman was from Golden, Miss.

Officials are still looking into what caused the death of a 35-year old Tishomingo County woman who was found dead in a Super 8 Motel room in Alabama earlier this month. On March 6, Melissa Jo Hammock was found unconscious just after midnight in a hotel room.

Hotel personnel said Hammock was not registered at the motel but was reportedly staying with someone.

WTVA said the initial autopsy results were inconclusive and that a toxicology report on Hammock had been ordered.

Meridian to buy MDOT anti-litter truck for $1

On March 28, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) will present the city of Meridian, and the mayor Cheri M. Barry, an Anti-Litter Truck for the sum of $1. The presentation will take place at Dumont Plaza at the corner of 22nd and 5th Street at 10 a.m.

Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall will present Mayor Barry with the truck.

“Litter prevention is something that I am very passionate about and I am proud to work with the City of Meridian in our efforts against roadside litter,” Commissioner Hall said.

Thieves break woman’s jaw during robbery

Clarksdale police are investigating an armed robbery that left a local woman severely injured. Captain Robbie Linley said the alleged assault occurred on March 23 in the 400 block of Lynn Street. The unnamed female said two black males assaulted her and took her purse.

Linley said the woman’s purse contained an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspects broke the woman’s jaw during the assault.

No suspects are in custody.

Greenville gets $300,000 grant

Congressman Bennie Thompson said the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the city of Greenville an Economic Development Initiative Special Projects Grant in the amount of $300,000.

Greenville will use these funds for the renovation and infrastructure enhancements for a youth wellness project.
