82-year-old woman ran off the road

An Alcorn County woman has died following a one-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon, WTVA reported.

Alcorn County Coroner Jay Jones said Dorothy Colston, 82, was headed east on County Road 510 when she apparently ran off the road, then overcorrected, causing her vehicle to flip and hit a ditch.

Colston was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities said she was not wearing a seat belt.

Alcorn County 911 received the call at 2:11 p.m. Friday afternoon. Colston was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple trauma.

Paralyzed man gets 20 years for Vicksburg shooting

A Vicksburg man who was paralyzed in a 2006 drive-by shooting has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a 2011 drive-by shooting.

The Vicksburg Post reports that 31-year-old Eric Wallace appeared distraught when Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced him Friday.

Noone was injured when Wallace shot at a car and at the front door of an unoccupied home in August 2011. Prosecutors said forensic tests showed bullet casings found at the scene matched Wallace’s pistol.

Wallace had faced up to 45 years in prison. A prosecutor had asked for the maximum sentence.

A jury convicted Wallace last month after deliberating for roughly 90 minutes.

Plea change hearing set in Jackson cocaine case

A change of plea hearing has been scheduled for a man charged in a central Mississippi drug case.

Antonio Latorn Shelton is charged in U.S. District Court in Jackson with several counts related to the possession of cocaine in 2011.

A court filing this week says the plea chance hearing is scheduled for Jan. 3 in Jackson before U.S. District Judge Dan Jordan.

2 men rob Moss Point bank

Moss Point police continue an investigation into a bank robbery in Escatawpa.

Police say two men with handguns robbed the Merchants & Marine Bank on Mississippi 63 at about 9:48 a.m. Thursday and fled in a vehicle police say was stolen in Alabama.

Police Chief Keith Davis tells The Sun Herald officers later found the vehicle, stolen in Foley, Ala., abandoned.

Davis said police are following some leads and the investigation continues.
