Truck ran off the highway
A man who had been missing since Jan. 15 was found Friday in the woods near Interstate 59 in Picayune. Authorities said 44-year old David Hotard, of Lumberton, was reported missing after he didn’t show up for work at Slidell, La., company.
A search for Hotard began and a helicopter spotted the wreckage on Jan. 21. The Mississippi Highway Patrol said it appears Hotard’s truck ran off the Interstate and flipped over. The truck could not be seen from the road, but a helicopter was able to find the site.
An autopsy of Hotard has been scheduled.
Man killed when attacked by 3 pit bulls
A Pontotoc County man is dead after authorities said he was attacked by three of his neighbor’s pit bulls. Around 2:30 p.m., Jan. 25, the body of 51-year old Ronnie Waldo was discovered on a neighboring property near his home on Topsy Road near Randolph. Waldo was pronounced dead at the scene.
WTVA reported that the dogs owner, James Swanson, was at work at the time of the attack, but didn’t understand what Waldo was doing on his property.
“They was all on chains except for one,” Swanson told WTVA, speaking of his dogs. “I’ve got beware of dogs signs on my property. I just don’t understand why he was in the yard.”
Swanson said Waldo was his friend and he expressed sorrow for Waldo’s family and his dogs which were taken into animal control custody.
No charges have been filed against Swanson at this time.
One woman killed, another injured in fire
Authorities in Oxford are looking into what caused an early morning fire at a residence on 14th Street that killed one woman and seriously injured another. On Jan. 20, firefighters responded to the scene about 12:30 a.m. and found 54-year old Patricia K. Wilkerson, 54.
Wilkerson, who was originally from Vicksburg, died at the scene, while the owner of the residence, Frances Brown, was airlifted to a burn center in Alabama.
