Meridian man gets 10 years for fraud

JACKSON – A Meridian man will spend the next 10 years behind bars for fraud, Attorney General Jim Hood said. Eldredge Simon, 29, plead guilty to two counts of fraudulent use of identity before Judge John Emfinger in Rankin County Circuit Court.

Simon also admitted to compromising a company’s checking account to pay his personal credit card bills.

Judge Emfinger sentenced Simon to five years on each count to run consecutively, for a total of 10 years to serve along with five years post-release supervision. Simon must also pay court costs of $1,841, $500 to the Attorney General’s Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund and restitution in the amount of $4,253.07.

“We thank Judge Emfinger for this strong sentence, and the legislature for strengthening the law in recent years to help us protect businesses who become victims of this type of crime,” said Attorney General Hood.

Hood said Simon is a two-time convicted felon and he was indicted by the Attorney General’s Office as a habitual offender.
