The small town of Glen, near Corinth, in Alcorn County, now has a safe place for residents to go in case of a tornado. A storm shelter opened in the town last week and is just one of 10 storm shelters planned for Alcorn County.

The 14-by-14 foot shelter is located on the east side of town hall and can accommodate about 50 people. The shelter was constructed with heavily reinforced structural steel along with tons of concrete. Reportedly, the shelter is anchored two feet in the ground.

Couple charged with stealing and scrapping car

A man and woman already out on bond for allegedly committing a burglary earlier this year have been arrested again for reportedly stealing a car and selling it for scrap metal. Jeffrey Grey Allen, 33, and Donna Marie Freeman, 34, both of Moss Point, were charged with felony taking of a motor vehicle.

Authorities said deputies responded to a Bayou Cumbest Road residence, in Moss Point, in reference to the theft of a motor vehicle. The victim advised that he kept a 1986 Pontiac Trans Am on the property and it was gone.

An investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department led them to a local scrap yard where they learned the car had been scrapped.

Allen and Freeman each initially received a bond amount of $7,500, but that was revoked pending their prior charges.
