Weapon recovered in Florida

Jackson County authorities said a man walked into the police station in Pascagoula Friday night and confessed to killing his girlfriend. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said 56-year old Dennis Lee Hurley came in and allegedly said he killed Diana Davis.

Deputies arrived at Davis’ residence in the 8000 block of Augusta Road, in Moss Point, and found Davis with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators traveled to Pensacola, Florida and authorities there assisted with the search and recovery of Davis’ clothing and dive teams recovered the weapon used in the murder off a fishing pier in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Hurley, who was out on bond for a domestic violence charge in 2010 against Davis, has been charged with her murder.

Man denied bond in fatal dog attack

A Pontotoc County man has been denied bond after his pit bulls attacked and killed a man. Casey Swanson appeared in court after being indicted on manslaughter charges in March 2011. Swanson’s dogs attacked and killed 51-year old Ronnie Waldo while Waldo was reportedly helping a friend repair a hot water heater on Jan. 26.

WCBI reported that Waldo was attacked by pit bulls when he walked next door to Swanson‘s house to retrieve a part. Authorities said the dogs were allowed to roam free.

Prosecutors say Swanson was charged as a habitual offender because of previous burglary and larceny convictions.

Swanson has defended his dogs’ actions and said that all but one were confined.
