Hinds supervisor resigns after health questions

Hinds County Supervisor Doug Anderson is resigning, after some fellow supervisors questioned if he was too ill to continue serving.

Anderson, a supervisor since 1993, will step down Jan. 1. His resignation was announced by his daughter, Jackie Anderson, at a Thursday press conference that her father did not attend.

Fox has pulled new episodes of “Family Guy” and “American Dad” this Sunday to avoid airing any potentially sensitive content following the Connecticut school shooting.

The originally scheduled episode of “Family Guy” had Peter telling his own version of the nativity story. The “American Dad” episode told the story of a demon who punished naughty children at Christmas. Both series plan to substitute reruns.

Funeral planned for state’s first black female senator

State Sen. Alice Varnado Harden, a Democrat from Jackson who was a passionate voice for education and domestic violence victims during her 24 years in the Legislature, has died. She was 64.

Her death was announced Dec. 6, by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves. She died at a Jackson hospital after a lengthy illness, friends said. Other details of her death were not released. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, and a daughter. […]

Governor holds summit to ‘Stomp Out Teenage Pregnancy’

Gov. Phil Bryant told approximately 350 attendees last week that he has a goal to try and decrease teen pregnancy by 15 percent by 2017. The Governor was the keynote speaker at his Healthy Teens for a Better Mississippi first Teens Pregnancy Prevention Summit, Dec. 6, at the Jackson Convention Complex.
