Nurse going to trial for burning patient with flat iron

JACKSON – A Columbus resident will go to trial in November for allegedly burning a patient with a hot flat iron. Attorney General Jim Hood said 53-year old Sherill Culpepper turned herself into to authorities after learning a warrant had been issued for her arrest.

Culpepper voluntarily presented herself to the Lowndes County Circuit Court, where she was arraigned on one count of Felonious Abuse of a Vulnerable Person. She is scheduled to go to trial on Nov. 8.

Hood said that while she was working as an LPN, Culpepper allegedly “inflicted physical pain or injury upon a vulnerable person left in her care by heating a flat iron” and putting it against the skin of the vulnerable person.

Culpepper was released on a $5,000 bond.

If convicted, Culpepper faces up to 20 years in jail.
