Ole Miss cruises to 59-14 homecoming victory over Idaho

OXFORD, Mississippi (AP) — Idaho briefly made things interesting against Mississippi on Saturday night.

But a lack of depth, a few missed tackles and a handful of mistakes doomed the Vandals in a 59-14 loss to the Rebels at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Taylor Davis completed 12 of 30 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown while Dezmon Epps added five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. But it wasn’t nearly enough for Idaho (1-7), which gave up 572 total yards… […]

No opponent, no problem: Jackson State celebrates homecoming after Grambling forfeits

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Grambling’s decision not to travel to Jackson State for Saturday’s football game did not stop the homecoming festivities on the Mississippi campus.

The music was blaring, the barbecue roasting and there were good times all around outside of Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. It looked like a typical JSU homecoming celebration, complete with 70-degree weather, a parade and — of course — a performance by the school’s popular marching band, the Sonic Boom of the South.

There was everything except a football game… […]

J-S-WHEW wakes up at halftime to defeat Prairie View

By Tim Ward

Sports Writer

On a rainy, soggy day that forced the Sonic Boom to perform halftime in the stands, Jackson State snapped out of a first half trance to blowout Prairie View 34 to 13. That’s the ending. The beginning, was more like the previous week, two quarters with no points.

A little over 6500 people braved the elements to watch JSU look lethargic and uninspired to begin the game.

Dedric McDonald started the game but wasn’t the same quarterback who led three fourth quarter touchdowns just seven days ago. He seemed to be pressing…. […]

Jackson State disappoints fans in home opener

By Tim Ward

Sports Writer

After being on the road to open the season for three consecutive weeks, JSU played their first home game in front of an announced crowd of over 20,000. Low numbers since the last time Southern came to Jackson. Saturday’s (Sept. 22) game against Southern was a great example of how Tiger fans are feeling. Let me explain. At this point in the season, die hard fans expected to be at least 2 & 2 after Saturday, not 1 & 3.

Let’s break it down. First game, Mississippi State, yeah right…. […]
