Tigers snap seven game losing streak, beat Tennessee State 33-26

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jackson State and Tennessee State fans that flocked to the Liberty Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 11, were treated to one of the most exciting games in the recent history of the Southern Heritage Classic.

Like all intense rivalries the 2010 version of the game had something for everyone- a back and forth game, a battle of two of the best bands in black college football and fiercely loyal fans.

The Jackson State Tigers held on to defeat the TSU Tigers 33-26 on the final play of the game. With six seconds remaining in regulation, the Tennessee State Tigers were on the JSU two yard line an errant Jeremy Perry pass gave Jackson State a victory.

JSU quarterback Casey Therriault passed for a game high 284 yards and four touchdowns, as he completed 23 of 38 pass attempts. E.J. Drewery led all receivers with five receptions for 62 yards and a TD. B.J. Lee rushed for a team high 75 yards on 12 attempts. Milton Patterson led JSU’s defensive effort with 12 tackles and three tackles for loss.

For TSU, Preston Brown did the heavy lifting as he rushed for a game high 218 yards and two TDs on 33 carries. Perry passed for 185 yards, completing 14 of 36 attempts. Devin Wilson caught a team high four passes for 50 yards.

Jackson State will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when the Tigers travel to Grambling, La.,to face the G-Men. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
