PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) — John Gibbs, Jr. passed for four touchdowns and Arron Baker ran for three more as Alcorn State scored in bunches to defeat Prairie View 77-48 on Saturday.
Prairie View’s theme for the game was “Fade 2 Black,” marking the final game at the school’s 66-year-old Blackshear Field with a postgame ceremony featuring fireworks.
Alcorn State (7-2, 5-1) started the fireworks early, scoring four touchdowns in a span of roughly eight minutes of the first and second quarters to lead 49-28 at halftime. The Braves, averaging 41 points, scored a 21-point cluster in the second half, gaining 699 yards of total offense.
Gibbs passed for 362 yards with scoring strikes to Brandon Vessell, Jaborian McKenzie (2) and Anthony Williams III.
Prairie View (3-5, 3-4) clawed from two scores down to tie 14-14. Jerry Lovelocke passed for 305 yards and two TDs, and Johnta Hebert rushed 157 yards and two scores.
