Celebrating the life of Walter “Lee” Coleman

Walter Lee Coleman was born on December 16, 1952 in Jackson Miss., the twelfth child of Hugh and Fannie Coleman, Sr. He departed this life April 29, 2009.

Walter received his education in Jackson Public Schools, first at Mary C. Johnson Elementary and graduating from Lanier High School where he excelled in football. Upon graduation he received a full scholarship as quarterback to Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Walter met and married Kim Washington while at college and moved to Miami, Florida, To this union three beautiful children were born; Courtney (Patrick); Walter Jr., and Brandon. The love of his life was presented to Walter with the birth of his grandson Brandon, Jr, or “B.J.” Walter lived in Miami for over 25 years. He held various positions over the years where he put his people skills and love of sports to work, He was employed by B.F. Goodrich Aerospace until his retirement to return home to Jackson. He was blessed to find another great workplace where his co-workers became extended family members at Central Mississippi Medical Center here in Jackson.

He lived his life to the fullest and rewarded everyone he met with a fabulous smile, followed by a hug and a kiss. Walter’s favorite greeting for special people was “love of my life” and he took great pride in the job of protecting of his sisters.

His parents, two brothers, Hugh Jr. and James, and two sisters Johnnie Faye and Ethel all precede him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory along with his children. Two brothers: Henry (Ethel), and Johnny Hollowell. Nine sisters: Earlene, Vida Mills, Emma (Walter) Griffin, Margaret (Melvin) Roberts, Mary, Della Grant, Golda, Sarah (Roderick) White, and Janice (Jessie) Christmas. A host of nieces and nephews and five God-children.
