HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (AP) — A University of Southern Mississippi student is in custody facing a charge of sexual battery.
According to a university news release, 20-year-old Edward Rahaim, a junior from Hattiesburg, was arrested Friday for an alleged incident that occurred at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house on the Hattiesburg campus. Details of the incident were not released.
WDAM-TV reports Rahaim made his initial appearance in Hattiesburg Municipal Court on Monday. He is being held at the Forrest County Regional Jail on $20,000 bond.
University Police Chief Bob Hopkins commended members of the fraternity who reported the alleged incident to campus officers, prompting an investigation.
