OCEAN SPRINGS – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men this week after they attempted to rob a grocery store that they allegedly robbed in April. Benjamin Franklin Reddix, 58, of Pritchard, Alabama and 56-year old Eugene Brooks Curry, of Gulfport, were charged with grand larceny after authorities said they tried to rob Broome’s Grocery Store on Washington Avenue in Ocean Springs.

In April, Reddix went into the store to distract the cashier while Curry allegedly went in the back office and stole $1,500 in cash and several other items.

Deputies said the two men were arrested when they went back to Broome’s Grocery and tried to use the same ploy. The cashier recognized Reddix and Curry from the April incident and went in the back office and contacted the sheriff’s department.

When deputies arrived at the store, the two men were gone, but the cashier gave authorities a description of the vehicle they left in, and they were apprehended a short distance away without incident.

Both men are being held on a $5,000 bond.
