Broke into victim’s home

Three suspects have been arrested and charged with capital murder for the shooting death and robbery of a Gulfport man. Courtney Beavers was shot to death on July 2 at his apartment after the three suspects allegedly broke in on him.

Nicholas Lydie, 15, Kewan Hosey, 20, and Alfred Newsom, 19, were taken into custody and charged two weeks after the murder. All three are being held at the Harrison County jail without bond.

The case remains under investigation.

One-year old child dies in fire

Indianola authorities said a 1-year old boy was pronounced dead at the scene after the house he was in caught fire. Tremarius Hudson was among nine other people at the residence on Roosevelt Street when it caught fire about 1:30 a.m., July 12.

Authorities responded to the scene within minutes and five adults and three children were able to escape the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Arrest made in Jackson murder

Jackson police have a suspect in custody for the murder of a man found behind an abandoned house last week. Andrew Bingham, 26, has been charged with the murder of Michael Irving Hayes who was found on the street on July 12.

Authorities are still investigating.

Ole Miss student killed in motorcycle crash

A 23-year old Ole Miss student was killed when she lost control of her motorcycle and hit a fire hydrant. Bebe Schiefer was riding a 2005 Honda Sport motorcycle in the southbound lane of Tchulahoma Road around 11:30 p.m., on July 7.

Police said she lost control going into a curve and hit the hydrant. Schiefer was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said she was wearing a helmet.

Train-car crash kills 1, injures 1

A Greenwood woman was killed and her sister critically injured after their car collided with a freight train earlier this month. Jeanie Jackson-Blair, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident at the intersection of Money Road and County Road 83.
