Court says he will stay in jail

WTVA reported that an inmate that robbed a Winona woman in her home in 2008, has lost his request to have his conviction thrown out. LaMarcus Collins, also known as “Two Pistols,” was convicted in April 2009 and sentenced to 25 years in jail.

Through his attorney, Collins said the court should have declared a mistrial because the judge did not rule on a motion to have his nickname, “Two Pistols,” barred from being mentioned in court.

His appeal claims prosecutors used the name in court before witness testimony began, WTVA said.

Authorities said, however, it was important to include the name, “Two Pistols,” during the trial because the victim identified her assailant by that name.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals says they have no new information to request a new trial.

The accident remains under investigation.

Cancer center opens in the Delta

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held earlier this month for the new Delta Cancer Institute in Greenville. Located behind the Delta Regional Medical Center, the new state-of-the-art facility offers radiation therapy for cancer patients who live in the area.

Tours of the new facility were conducted during an open house, and visitors were allowed to see some of the equipment that will be used in therapy.

Officials said the new facility features the latest in radiation therapy technology coupled with a professional and expert staff.

The Delta Cancer Institute is a part of the Bethesda Cancer Centers.
