JACKSON – A 41-year-old man has turned himself in to police after an incident Monday morning that left another man and a woman dead. Jessie Freeman has been charged with the murders of Allen Ramsey II, 40, and Lenora Freeman, 37.

Authorities have not determined Lenora’s relationship to the suspect, but WLBT reported that Lenora is listed as the property owner at Jessie Freeman’s last known address and could possibly be his wife.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said about 10 a.m., Monday, June 11, officers from the robbery/homicide division were called to the scene of an accident at 5925 I-55 N. When they arrived, Lenora Freeman had already been transported to UMC with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.

Ramsey died at the scene.

“The male victim had been thrown from the vehicle and was trapped underneath,” Green said. “But our preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect approached the victims while they were sitting in a vehicle and he opened fire striking both victims.”

Police believe the incident started as an altercation in the parking lot of the Studio 6 hotel at the I-55 address.

Green said the vehicle Ramsey was driving, a red Chevy truck with a personalized Rankin County license plate, hit a concrete barrier and flipped over on its side near the motel and the Beasley Road intersection.

Ramsey had been shot twice.

Lenora Freeman died Tuesday afternoon at UMC.

A black Pontiac Firebird driven by the suspect fled the scene and was later found in the north parking lot at St. Dominic’s Hospital.

Police are still investigating the crime.
