Clarksdale boy victim of drive-by shooting

An 8-year old boy remains in stable condition after being shot twice in the shoulder while in his home last week. Local news reports said D’Corian Sutton was shot about 7:30 p.m., Feb. 3, when stray bullets were fired during a drive-by shooting taking place outside.

Sutton was later transferred to the Lebhonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, where he was expected to be released.

Clarksdale Police have spoken to a person of interest in the case, but have not released a name, WABG said.

No motive or intended victim in the shooting has been released.

Third person arrested in sexual assault case

A third person has been arrested in connection with a 17-year old Amory teen who said she was assaulted while at a party. James Patrick Allen, 21, of Mantachie, was charged with sexual battery, along with Dustin Parker, 20, and John Matthew Earnest, 17.

The victim in this case claimed that she was at a party on Jan. 24, in Amory, when she was assaulted. Officials did not release any details about the assault, other than they anticipated more than one arrest in the case.

Bond for Allen was set at $100,000. The case remains under investigation.

Safety seminar held in Greenwood

Due to the numerous construction accidents and fatalities each year, local companies have organized a safety seminar that offers reminders and helpful hints when it comes to workplace safety. The Third Annual Mississippi Delta Contractor Safety Seminar was held last week in Greenwood, hosted by several Delta area companies.

WABG reported that more than 600 people attended the seminar which was held at the Leflore County Civic Center. Safety demonstrations were also held to remind those in attendance how to be safety conscious in order to prevent accidents and save lives.
