JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has announced the recipients of free 22-gallon plastic recycling bins after completing a review of the applicantions. The bins are designed to increase the collection of recyclables including various paper products as well as aluminum, plastic, and glass containers.
MDEQ along with the Alcoa Recycling Company, the Mississippi Recycling Coalition, and the Southeast Recycling Development Council are partners in providing the grants for the bins.
Officials said grant applicants can be schools, colleges, universities, and public and non-profit office buildings.
Distribution of the recycling bins began this month and the first round of recipients were: The City of Indianola; The City of Madison; The New Albany Recycling Committee; The City of Ocean Springs; The City of Okolona; The City of Olive Branch; Rankin County Board of Supervisors; The City of Starkville; The City of Vicksburg; Hancock North Central Elementary School; Jackson Public School District; Jefferson Middle School (Columbia); Gautier Middle School; PTO – Saltillo Primary School; Keep Clinton Beautiful; Keep Copiah County Beautiful; Keep Corinth-Alcorn Beautiful; Union County Development Association; Boys/Girls of the Club Gulf Coast; Natchez-Adams County Community Alliance Foundation; Community Counseling Services (West Point); Mississippi Action for Community Education (Greenville); USDA Southern Horticultural Laboratory; The Camp Shelby Recycling Center; The Mississippi State Hospital; The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT); Delta State University; Mississippi College School of Law; Mississippi Valley State University and The University of Mississippi.
MDEQ served as the applicant reviewer and the distributor of the recycling bins.
