Raymond man gets 10 years for child porn

JACKSON – A Raymond man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail after pleading guilty to child exploitation charges in court, Attorney General Jim Hood said. Charles R. Hays, 62, entered his plea before Judge Malcolm Harrison in Hinds County Circuit Court, admitting that he downloaded child pornography on his computer.

Harrison sentenced Hays to 10 years in jail with seven to serve with three years suspended. Hays must also pay a $50,000 fine with $45,000 suspended. Hays must register as a sex offender and pay $1,000 to the Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund.

“I applaud Judge Harrison in sending the message: If you download child porn, we will catch you, and you will go to jail,” said Attorney General Hood. ” We have begun to see these type sentences have a deterrent effect, but we have many more to arrest.”

Hood said Hays was investigated by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Attorney General’s Office, and the case was prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorneys General Tina Herron and Brandon Ogburn.
