Body of missing swimmer found

Officials said the body of a Slidell, Louisiana man was found 17 hours after he went missing in the Jourdan River. A search and rescue crew recovered the body of 41-year old Charles Trotter after the man went swimming with family friends after watching a football game.

Authorities said the group went to McLeod Park and Trotter went missing shortly thereafter. Friends said Trotter helped his 7-year old daughter and 12-year old son across the river and appeared “tired” in the water.

Trotter’s body was fully clothed when he was found and he was also wearing a Saints’ jacket. Friends speculated that Trotter was “full of snacks” that he’d eaten during the football game and he caught a cramp while swimming.

An autopsy was ordered.

A week before that, 2-year old Caleb Holtzberger was found floating in his family’s swimming pool by his mother. The woman told police she woke up and looked for her son when he was found in the pool.

Trotter and the toddler’s death have both been ruled an accident.
