Police looking for family of fatal hit and run victim

Man killed crossing highway

The Jackson Police Department told local news stations that a 42-year old man was killed last Thursday while trying to cross the highway.

Since the man’s family has not been located, police are withholding the victim’s name pending that notification.

WLBT reported, however, that the man was hit by a gray Pontiac Firebird about 8 p.m. Thursday, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 and Gallatin Street.

The vehicle sustained major front end damage, but the driver was not seriously injured.

The driver has not been charged in the accident.

Missing toddler found at mall

Police said a 3-year old child reported missing at Wal-Mart Friday was found safely at a Tupelo mall with its grandmother. WTVA reported that units from the Tupelo Police Department responded to a “missing child” call at the North Gloster Street Wal-Mart late Friday night.

Wal-Mart employees asked customers and store employees to search the store and the parking lot for the child who was thought to be in the store.

Officials said the child was found more than an hour later at the Barnes Crossing Mall after the grandmother took the child to the mall without telling anyone.

No charges have been filed.

Four men charged with stealing cars

Four men were arrested for a string of auto burglaries in Indianola going back to New Year’s Eve. WABG reported that Rodriecus Lord, Derrick Clark, Tyredius Howard and Fershon Weeks were all arrested and charged with those auto thefts.

Officials told WABG that in addition to the auto burglary charge, Rodriecus Lord was also charged with possession of stolen firearms by a convicted felon.

Reportedly, Lord and Howard were still in custody while Clark and Weeks were free on bond.
