CANTON – A former home health nursing assistant will spend the next year behind bars for stealing checks from her patient and forging the signature. Angela Shonta Wilson, 34, of Canton, was sentenced to 10 years in jail, nine suspended, by Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green.

Attorney General Jim Hood said Wilson was employed by Sta Home Health and was assigned to assist the victim, a resident of Admiral Retirement Center in Jackson. From April 4, 2006 through May 9, 2006, Wilson stole and forged eight checks totaling $1,700.

She was arrested on May 17, 2011.

Wilson must pay $1,700 in restitution and $500 to the Mississippi Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund. Upon her release from prison, Wilson will be on supervised probation for four years.

“We are pleased to get full restitution for the victim in this case, and to see that the defendant will have a little time behind bars to consider the crime she committed,” said Attorney General Jim Hood.
