National chain eyes Greenville location

WABG reported that the world’s leading off-price retailer, T.J. Maxx may open a store in Greenville. The Massachusetts based company has been eyeing the Goody’s Building as its newest location.

WABG said that the parent company of T.J. Maxx advertised for employment opportunities, in particular a store manager and an assistant manager to hire, train, supervise and motivate a team.

The company that owns T.J. Maxx also owns Marshall’s, Homegoods and AJ Wright. They currently have an annual revenue of more than $19 billion with 2,500 stores and 130,000 employees.

The new store in Greenville may generate at least 40 new jobs.

Convenience store robbed at gunpoint

Greenville police said two masked men robbed the Delta One Stop on Main Street at gunpoint last week. According to Captain Andrew Kaho and WABG reports, the two men entered the store around 9 p.m., with a gun, and demanded money from the store clerk. After the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the men fled the premises on foot.

Beloved Winona music teacher passes away

WABG reported that Patti Finley, an esteemed professor of music education in Winona passed away from cancer. Finley was 50 years old.

Finley was with the Winona Show Choir on Feb. 2, when the group recorded a song at the Delta Music Institute at Delta State University. The choir is comprised of students from Kindergarten through 12th grade in the Winona School District.

The choir was preparing a demo that will be considered in a Kennedy Center Honors Program, which includes a trip to Washington, D.C., and a visit with President Barack Obama.

School officials said Finley didn’t expect to live to see the completion of the project.
