MEMA launches new emergency website

JACKSON – With Mississippi being overwhelmed with severe weather and flooding conditions, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has launched a new website specifically for emergency and ongoing disaster information.

The new website, www.MSDisasterInfo.com, features updated road closures, open shelters, disaster-related news and information as well as information about how people can donate or help disaster survivors.

According to the site, individuals in the following counties can register for disaster assistance: Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Bolivar Chickasaw, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke, Clay, Coahoma, DeSoto, Greene, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphries, Issaquena, Jasper, Jefferson, Kemper, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Neshoba, Newton, Panola, Quitman, Sharkey, Smith, Sunflower, Tishomingo, Tunica, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wilkinson, Winston and Yazoo.

Links to responding state and federal government agencies’ websites, as well as those of some nonprofit organizations, are also included on the website.

A link to the new website can also be found on MEMA’s website, www.msema.org.

In addition, businesses which have been impacted by the tornados and Mississippi River flooding can find information on important resources available to them by visiting MDA’s website, www.mississippi.org, and selecting “2011 Flood and Storm Business Interruption Assistance” from the left hand menu on the home page, under “Existing MS Business.”
