JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) recently held a dedication ceremony for a Habitat for Humanity project in which employees from both agencies volunteered hours of their time to help construct a beautiful 1,200 square foot home for Pedro and Shawn Galloway.

The ceremony was held Monday, June 17, in front of the Habitat home, located on Englewood Street in Jackson. Representatives from each agency gave remarks about the project, including: MDOT Central Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall; Vice President, Habitat for Humanity Metro Jackson, Johnny Ray; Deputy Attorney General Mike Lanford; Assistant Attorney General Roy Tipton; and Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Metro Jackson, Cindy Griffin.
“The individual commitment from each volunteer is commendable and I am overjoyed that our combined efforts have given the Galloway family a new home,” said Hall.
The transformation from a concrete slab into a finished four bedroom home took about four months to complete and is a great example of how hard work and fellowship can bring communities together.
There were approximately 130 volunteers involved in this project.
Habitat for Humanity is a faith based, community organization that believes everyone deserves a place to live. They work in partnership with low-income families and utilize volunteer labor and donated materials, when possible, to organize and construct affordable homes; which are sold to the family at cost, with no profit or interest.
