Man sentenced for setting house ablaze, firing at police

siren lightsPASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) – A 57-year-old man who set fire to his parents’ Mississippi home and assaulted two police officers has been ordered to serve 15 years of a 50-year prison term.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2aZhszS) Circuit Judge Robert Krebs on Monday gave Timothy Beaugez a 20-year prison term for first-degree arson. The judge suspended five years, leaving 15 to serve.

Krebs also ordered a 30-year term on two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. Krebs suspended 15 years, leaving 15 to serve.

District Attorney Tony Lawrence said Beaugez set fire to his parents’ wood-frame house in Ocean Springs on Oct. 9, 2013, and used a shotgun to fire at two officers. He pleaded guilty to all the charges in June.
