Man Arrested for moonshine, marijuana

MCCOOL – An Attala County man was arrested after agents found illegal moonshine and marijuana in his possession. James E. Patterson was arrested on April 20 after agents from Mississippi Alcohol Beverage Control served a warrant at a residence at 234 Red Patterson Road.

Patterson, 55, of 2479 Edgar Steed Road, in McCool, was charged with possession of an illegal distillery, possession of non-tax paid whiskey, possession of marijuana and the manufacture of marijuana.

During a search of the Red Patterson Road location, ABC agents discovered a moonshine still and several marijuana plants in exterior buildings on the property.

Agents seized 45 gallons of moonshine, a 3-barrel still, a 75-gallon stainless steel condenser, a 150-gallon stainless steel still, one-half pound processed marijuana, and 31 marijuana plants, said Kathy Waterbury of the Mississippi State Tax Commission.

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Winston County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance in this arrest.

Patterson was booked in the Winston County Jail pending a bond hearing.
