Police searching for 3 suspects
Bolivar County officials are searching for three men in connection with a shooting early Sunday morning at a club in Gunnison. Authorities said eight people were injured while standing in front of Club Platinum about 12:30 a.m., Sept. 4.
The club was hosting a private Labor Day party when the three suspects tried to gain entry into the club. After the men refused to be searched by club security, they were turned away at the door.
Witnesses then said the men walked out into the street and one man began shooting at the front of the club’s entrance. Two men and six women were shot.
Authorities said two of the victims were shot in the back and were transported to Bolivar Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators spoke to three other men seen with the suspects, but no one has been taken into custody.
The incident remains under investigation.
Woman crushed after hitting utility pole
Authorities in Jones County said a woman was killed Sunday when she was crushed by a utility that fell on her truck after an accident. The woman, who was not identified, was traveling westbound on Sosa Big Creek Road around noon, when she lost control of her Ford F-150 pick up truck.
The woman slammed into the pole, which snapped in two and fell on her vehicle.
A male passenger riding in the bed of the truck was ejected and treated for minor injuries.
Several Dixie Electric customers temporarily lost power due to the accident which remains under investigation.
Rust College asks supes for help in restoration
Officials from Rust College have asked the Marshall County Board of Supervisors for help in restoring at least five historic buildings on the school’s campus.
Formerly Mississippi Industrial College, the buildings were given to Rust more than a year ago for redevelopment.
Rust, a historical black college in Holly Springs, has about 900 students and has applied for a $800,000 grant to help with the restoration project.
