CLEVELAND – (AP) Delta State University is looking for a new men’s basketball coach after the school fired head coach Jason Conner.

Athletic Director Jeremy McClain made the official announcement.

The season was a rough one for Conner and the Statesmen. The team finished the season 6-21 – the team’s first losing season in eight years.

In his six seasons as the head coach of the Statesmen, Conner compiled a 93-73 mark with appearances in the 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Conner’s final game with the team was a 72-50 loss to University of Alabama-Huntsville on March 2 in the GSC Tournament.

Conner’s best season was the 2008-09 campaign when the team finished 21-9 and made an appearance in the NCAA South Region Tournament.
