WOODARD IS THE WINNER FOR THE DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR & CANTON HIGH SCHOOL’S TEACHER OF THE YEAR

John Woodard of Canton, Mississippi graduated from Tougaloo College in 2001. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education with an Emphasis in Chemistry. Since then he has taught Physical Science, Chemistry I & II, and Physics in the Canton Public School District. He holds various professional offices and memberships in everything from Mississippi Public Educators, to serving as the Science Department Chair, New Teacher Mentor, and Senior Project Committee Member. He has participated in numerous professional development workshops including “Identifying and Reaching Struggling Learners.” Woodard has also conducted numerous professional presentations including, “Effective Practices for Academic Success and Motivation.” Among his many awards and achievements are: “Outstanding Educator Award”, from the 100 Black Men of Canton, Inc. in 2008, “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” from CHS’ National Honor Society in 2005, “Excellence in Professional Development” from the Canton Public School District in 2006, and “Who’s Who Among American High School Teacher Nominations” in 2005 and 2006, just to name a few.
