JPS announces retired NFL player and All Pro Dad spokesman as conference keynote

Freddie Scott II – a retired Indianapolis Colt and the NFL spokesman for Tony Dungy’s organization All Pro Dad – is the keynote speaker for the Jackson Public Schools 7th Annual Dads of Destiny Conference. This year’s conference is scheduled for 5:45 p.m., Thursday, January 28, at Murrah High School, 1400 Murrah Drive. There is no cost to attend this event for JPS fathers and father figures.

On-site registration will begin at 4:30; however, participants are strongly encouraged to pre-register through their child’s school or by calling 601-960-8878 or 601-960-8885.

Scott also is an assistant pastor of Word of Faith Christian Center in Nashville, Tenn., and the author of The Dad I Wish I Had. He and his wife, Tondalanea, have five children.

He will be welcomed to Jackson by Dr. Lonnie J. Edwards Sr., superintendent of Jackson Public Schools. Along with an inspirational message from Scott, the conference includes sessions on health and wellness, ways to volunteer in your child’s school, the new process for funding college, and other beneficial sessions to help better educate

and equip fathers to be actively involved throughout their children’s education.

A complimentary dinner will be provided. There is time for fellowship and to learn from one another and chances to win door prizes and other giveaways.

The annual conference is an outgrowth of the national WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program begun seven years ago in JPS. Currently, 28 of 38 JPS elementary schools and 4 of 10 middle schools have participated in the WATCH D.O.G.S. Program since the program’s inception during the 2003 – 2004 school year. JPS is expanding the WATCH D.O.G.S. Program and is actively recruiting fathers and father figures’ involvement from elementary through high school.
