The cause of death for Mississippi-born actor John Dye is still undetermined after he was found dead in his San Francisco home on Jan. 10. Dye, who was born in Amory, was well known for his role of Andrew, the Angel of Death, in the long-running television series “Touched by an Angel.”

While the medical examiners said Dye’s cause of death is unknown, family members are saying the actor died of heart failure.

Dye, who attended Tupelo High School, and later Mississippi State University, appeared in at least three films, “Making The Grade”, “Modern Girls” and the martial-arts flick “The Best of the Best.” He also had several small roles on “Murder, She Wrote” and other television shows.

Dye landed the role as the Angel of Death on “Touched by an Angel” in 1994, and appeared in all nine seasons of the series.

Funeral arrangements for Dye are incomplete.

Pocahontas Volunteer Fire Department gets $40,000 grant

Congressman Bennie Thompson announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration has awarded a $39,097 Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Pocahontas Volunteer Fire Department.

Thompson said the purpose of the AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first responder personnel.

AFG funding priority is given to the Vehicle Acquisition Program Area where eligible activities include but are not limited to, pumpers, aerials, quints, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, foam units, and fireboats.

Suspects caught breaking into home

Pascagoula Police have arrested two men for allegedly breaking into a home on Monday, Jan. 10. Authorities said Emanuel Tyshun Dukes, 18, and LaCharles DeWayne Willis, Jr., 20, were arrested after the resident of the Sumedinger address allegedly saw the two men breaking into her home.

The suspects saw the homeowner and fled the scene only to be captured a short distance later by officers of the Pascagoula Police Department.

Bond for the suspects has not been set.

Police said nothing was taken from the residence and the case remains under investigation.
