NEW ALBANY – Funeral services for the wife of New Albany High School football coach Ron Price will be held today at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in New Albany. Amanda Price, 31, was murdered Monday, Dec. 5, when police said she startled a possible burglar in the backyard of her home.
New Albany Police Chief David Grisham said the shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Monday night. Grisham said it appears Price may have gone outside with the family dog and startled aperson in her backyard. When Price started screaming, Grisham said she was shot to death.
Price’s husband, Ron, heard his wife’s screams and ran outside and was reportedly shot in the shoulder, WLBT reported. He was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo for treatment.
The couple’s young daughter was inside the residence during the shootings and she was not injured.
Grisham said no one in the neighborhood saw anything the night of the murder, but a number of cars had been burglarized at the same time, WLBT said.
Authorities are urging residents in the area to keep doors and windows locked until they find the person responsible for the shooting.
Ron Price recently completed his fourth season as football coach in New Albany. Along with her husband, Amanda Price was also employed by the New Albany school district, as a speech pathologist.
“They are outstanding role models for children – everything a superintendent would want to work in the school district,” superintendent Chuck Garrett told WLBT.
A $20,000 reward has been offered for information about the shooting that leads to a conviction. Anyone with knowledge about this case can contact the New Albany Police Department at 662-534-2222.
