Court of Appeals Judge Ceola James of Vicksburg took the oath of office as a Judge of the Mississippi Court of Appeals on Monday, Jan. 7.

Appeal to be heard in case of teen who killed father

The Mississippi Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments tomorrow, Nov. 27, in an appeal from a Biloxi man convicted of killing his father.

Dante Evans was 16 when he was convicted in Harrison County of murder in the April 13, 2007, shooting death of his father, 40-year-old Darold Lee Evans. Dante Evans was sentenced to life in prison in 2009.

Former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice William Joel Blass of Pass Christian has died. Blass died Oct. 23, four days after his 95th birthday.

Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. of Jackson said, “He was a great legal scholar and outstanding leader of the bar for many years. He lived professionalism by example and was an inspiration to attorneys and judges.”

Hot oil murder case moved out of Hancock County

A judge has ordered a change of venue for the re-trial of Edna Mae Sanders and issued a gag order in the case of her husband’s death after she doused him with hot cooking oil.
