Evans wins new trial for murder in father’s death

Dante Lamar Evans claims a Harrison County judge wouldn’t let him tell a jury that he feared for his life at the hands of an abusive parent when at the age of 14 he shot and killed his father.

Now he’ll get his chance.

The Mississippi Supreme Court has thrown out his murder conviction and ordered a new trial. At the same time, the Supreme Court ordered the trial judge to let Evans hire an expert to make that argument for him. […]

Appeal to be heard in case of teen who killed father

The Mississippi Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments tomorrow, Nov. 27, in an appeal from a Biloxi man convicted of killing his father.

Dante Evans was 16 when he was convicted in Harrison County of murder in the April 13, 2007, shooting death of his father, 40-year-old Darold Lee Evans. Dante Evans was sentenced to life in prison in 2009.
