JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to inform motorists of a wide load that will move through the state today.
Today, Dec. 5, a wide load will depart Holly Springs and travel south on Highway 7 to U.S. Highway 78 to Olive Branch.
From Olive Branch, the load will take Highway 302 to Southaven, then to Interstate 55 south to Interstate 69 west. Next, the load will take U.S. Highway 61 south through Clarksdale and Cleveland, then turn east on U.S. Highway 82 at Leland to Indianola. It will go south on U.S. Highway 49W to Yazoo City, then south on U.S. Highway 49 to Interstate 220 in Jackson.
Then the load will take Interstate 220 to Interstate 20 through Jackson to U.S. Highway 49 south through the towns of Florence, Mendenhall, Magee, then at Collins it will turn west on U.S. Highway 84. It will then park at the Brookhaven staging area until a permit is issued to allow it to travel to its destination in Louisiana.
The load is 25 feet wide and 13 feet 6 inches high and 83 feet long, and weighs 105,000 pounds.
“It is imperative to get this equipment moved to its destination in a timely manner but even more important to keep motorists safe and aware of the wide load move,” said the Mississippi Transportation Commission in a joint statement.
