In an effort to promote tourism and unity within their community, the Town of Vaiden is hosting their first Spring Festival on Saturday, April 16 at the historic Vaiden High School Cultural and Community Center. Organizers said the event will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.

Mayor Mel Hawthorne, Vaiden’s first black mayor, said numerous bands, including local groups will perform and food and other booths will be open to all in attendance.

“The purpose of this festival is to showcase our local talents and artists to the community at large,” Hawthorne said. “We will have church choirs along with other artists and we’re planning for this to be an annual event if it’s successful.”

Past events include a Taste of Vaiden, a living Civil War history, Art Exhibits, book signings and a tour of the many historic sites. Vaiden also boasts two annual and very successful events: a Farmer’s Market during the summer and a Christmas Parade in December.
