Suspects sought in Gulfport triple murder

GULFPORT – Captain Ken Brown said this week they are still looking for suspects in the murders of three people found dead in a mobile home last month. On Aug. 30, the bodies of 48-year-old Gloria Morgan; her son, Clarence Payton, 28, and Charles Durr, 63, were discovered in a mobile home in the 2800 block of 19th Avenue.

Brown said each of the victims had been shot, and he would not elaborate on Durr’s relationship to Morgan and Payton.

Sources said a concerned person who knew all three of the victims went to “check on them” that Tuesday afternoon, discovered the bodies and notified the authorities.

Brown said investigators have uncovered a motive in the slayings, but no suspects are in custody at this time.

Brown said they are not releasing the motive pending the investigation.

In a statement released at the time of the murders, Gulfport Police Chief Alan Weatherford said: “As we seek to further this investigation and bring those responsible for this horrible act to justice; we also recognize that we must work to insure the safety of our community.”

The murders occurred at the Poolside Mobile Home Village on 19th Avenue.

“It is imperative that our citizens join us in this effort and remains vigilant, reporting any information or criminal activity,” Weatherford said.

Anyone with information about the slayings can contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Crimestoppers at 1-877-787-5959.
