PARCHMAN, Miss. (AP) – Officials continue to investigate the death of an inmate at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections says in a news release Friday that 35-year-old Albert Lee Thomas Jr. was pronounced dead after prison officials were unable to revive him.
He was in a Unit 29 cell alone when found April 19. Autopsy results are pending.
Thomas was serving a life sentence for homicide in Hinds County. He was sentenced on Dec. 1, 2004.
The Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman remains on lockdown following a homicide and an altercation between inmates.
Kelvin Bowen was killed on Tuesday, June 11, and a disturbance occurred Wednesday, June 12, in separate locations in Unit 29.
Eleven inmates and five staff members were injured during the disturbance. Two inmates remain hospitalized.

Mississippi State Penitentiary inmate Michael Dowda, who had escaped Saturday while on a maintenance work detail, has been captured in the early morning hours in Macon, Ga., according to a press release from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Through investigations by the MDOC-Corrections Investigation Division and United States Marshal’s Service in Mississippi and Georgia, Dowda was captured in Macon at approximately 12:30 a.m. today by officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Georgia.
