Nurse takes pain meds from patients

JACKSON – A New Albany nurse is facing charges after being indicted for taking pain medicines away from patients, Attorney General Jim Hood said. Deborah Hannon, 44, turned herself in to investigators of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Division this week at the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Hannon was indicted by a Union County Grand Jury on three counts of possession of a controlled substance, Attorney General Hood said.

The indictment alleges that, on or about April 1, 2010 thru the May 20, 2010, in Union County, Mississippi, Hannon, while working as an R.N. at a local hospital, removed Demerol from 25 carpujects and replaced the carpujects with a saline solution.

Nine carpujects contained 100 mg of Demerol and 16 carpujects contained 75 mg of Demerol.

Hannon’s bond was set at $5,000.

If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in jail or a fine up to $3,000 or both.
