Great American Cleanup continues in Jackson

The Great American Cleanup is underway in Jackson. The next GAC activity is scheduled for April 2, in the Metrocenter neighborhood from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to meet at Precinct 2, located at 1000 Metrocenter Drive. Other cleanup events scheduled include:

• April 6, Presidential Hills, 3971 North Flag Chapel Road, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at Virgie P. Middleton Community Center.

• April 30, Westside Community, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at Westside Community Center, 1650 Wiggins Road.

Each year, the city of Jackson and Keep Jackson Beautiful — the local, certified affiliate of Keep America Beautiful — partner to promote efforts to eliminate littering, encourage recycling, protect the future of our urban forests and beautify public spaces. The partners work with neighborhood associations, schools, churches, youth groups, civic groups and anyone who wants to organize a cleanup project.

Between March 1 – May 31, the Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest organized anti-litter and recycling campaign. This event involves several thousand volunteers in the Jackson area each year.
