Never can say goodbye

Papa Joe Jackson is losing his touch. As the June 25 anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death approaches, where’s the Jackson 4 tour? The patriarch needs to crack the whip and get Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon and Tito on the road for a lucrative tribute to MJ.

Until Joe gets his act together, satisfy your Jacko jones with these events commemorating the first anniversary of Michael’s passing.

“This Is It”

Buy it, download it, watch it on Starz all week. However you get it, this documentary is your best bet for filling that MJ void. The rehearsal for the never-to-be “This Is It” show gives every indication that Jackson’s 50-date London run – which was just 18 days away when he died – would have been a smash. From the new, big-budget, 3-D video version of “Thriller” to the pyrotechnics that would have made a KISS show look like a toddler fiddling with a matchbook, it was all coming together.

“The Ultimate Thriller”

This Michael Jackson tribute spectacular may be the closest to MJ you’ll get (at least this week). The revue is two hours inspired by the Dangerous and Bad tours and features choreography by Mic Thompson, who spent nine years onstage dancing next to Michael. It opens its North American run at Lynn Memorial Auditorium on Friday, June 25.

MJ on MTV

“Michael Jackson’s Influence on Music,” an hour-long special of videos, airs June 25 (check local listings for time). A two-hour block of his best-known videos airs early Saturday morning (June 26) – perfect for zombie insomniacs. And all day Friday, MTV news will recap the world reaction to the star’s death.

“Gone Too Soon”

A follow-up to Ian Halperin’s book “Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson,” the author’s film takes a close look at Jackson’s death. It’s the kind of dirt-filled, salacious investigation many Jacko-heads desire. The TV Guide Network debuts the two-hour special at 8p.m. Friday.

“Remembering Michael”

Some fans need something to touch. Something big and glossy. Something between an encyclopedia and dog-eared Tiger Beat. “Remembering Michael” is a 100-page anniversary tribute to the King of Pop with more than 200 photos, interviews and the goods on Paris, Prince and Blanket’s last 12 months.

Michael on demand on Music Choice

Settle in for a night of MJ on TV. Music Choice honors Jackson’s art with all his best videos on demand. A half dozen Music Choice stations will also have MJ videos in heavy rotation the next few days.
