Man found dead on couch; girlfriend charged

JACKSON – A 45-year old woman has been charged with murder after her boyfriend was found dead in his home early Saturday morning. Brenda Taylor was taken into custody several hours after the body of Leonard Harrington was found in his home in the 200 block of Catalina Circle.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said around 7:30 a.m., a neighbor found Harrington, 62, sitting upright on his living room sofa.

Harrington had been stabbed once in the chest.

Green said neighbors told police that Taylor and Harrington had had a fight the night before.

“According to one of the people on the scene, they’d had an altercation, a verbal altercation the night before,” said Green. “The girlfriend was identified and she was arrested a few hours later.”

Green said there were no signs of a forced entry or a physical struggle at Harrington’s residence, but she could not confirm if Taylor was living with Harrington at the time of his murder.

Harrington was pronounced dead at the scene by Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart.

Taylor was charged and transported to the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond. She is currently being held without bond.
