Victim shot three times

Columbus police believe a local man shot his father as he was walking home the park. James Earl Williams told police he was coming from Sims Scott Park on 22nd Street about 12:30 a.m., Saturday, when he was shot three times.

Authorities believe his son, Jonathan Jackson, fired the shots.

WCBI reported that Jackson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for the shootings.

No motive was given in the shooting.

No bond or a court date has been set for Jackson.

Williams’ condition was not released. The case remains under investigation.

Men arrested for drugs

Two men were arrested last week and charged with conspiring to deliver and sell illegal drugs in Monroe County. Arrested were 21-year-old Andrew Abbott of Smithville and 31-year-old Shane Gray of Aberdeen.

Bond for Abbott was set at $50,000 while Gray’s bond was set at $25,000.

Former caregivers charged with abuse

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said two former caregivers in North Mississippi have been charged with abuse of the elderly. Maggie Warren, 40, of Bruce and Zeporia Jones, 24, of Oxford, are charged with misdemeanor abuse.

Both suspects turned themselves in to authorities at the Lafayette County jail on June 17.

Hood said Warren and Jones used to work at the North Mississippi Regional Center, an intermediate care facility for the mentally disabled.

They are accused in unrelated cases of hitting separate patients at the facility.
